I am a psychiatrist and existentialist currently based between Washington DC and Montreal, practising both locally and internationally. I received most of my training at McGill University and am certified by the Royal College of Physicians of Canada and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. I am registered to practise in Canada (QC, NU), the United States (DC, MD, VA), and the United Kingdom (GMC).
My academic journey began with a Doctor of Medicine from Tehran University, followed by a Master of Science in Psychiatry Research and Psychiatry Residency at McGill University. As a visiting scholar, I have contributed to global mental health initiatives at the World Health Organisation in Geneva, the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, and King’s College London—Maudsley Hospital. I completed my academic training with a clinical postdoctoral fellowship in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins University.
My expertise extends beyond the pharmacological treatment of psychiatric conditions. I have received training in various psychotherapy modalities, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Existential Therapy, and Jungian Analysis. In my practice, I integrate these approaches within an eclectic existential framework, offering what I call Dynamic Eclectic Existential Psychopharmacotherapy (DEEP), which draws on the most effective elements of each method.
My clinical and research interests include mood, anxiety, and trauma-related conditions; existentialism; student mental health; and global mental health, with a focus on human rights, the misuse of psychiatry, and Rights-based Existential Psychiatry (REP).
