I am a board-certified psychiatrist, existentialist, and independent scholar based in Washington DC, practising locally across the DMV region in the USA and in Quebec, Canada, and registered with the GMC in the UK. I received most of my training at McGill University and am certified by both the Royal College of Physicians of Canada and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
My academic journey began with a Doctor of Medicine from Tehran University, followed by a Master of Science in Psychiatry Research and a Psychiatry Residency at McGill University. As a visiting scholar, I have contributed to global mental health initiatives at the World Health Organisation in Geneva, the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, and King’s College London (Maudsley Hospital). I completed my academic training with a clinical postdoctoral fellowship in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins University.
My expertise extends beyond pharmacological treatment. I have received training in multiple psychotherapy modalities, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Existential Therapy, and Jungian Analysis. In my practice, I integrate these approaches within an eclectic existential framework, an approach I call Dynamic Eclectic Existential Psychopharmacotherapy (DEEP Therapy), which draws on the most effective elements of each method.
My clinical and research interests include mood, anxiety, and trauma-related disorders; existentialism; student mental health; and global mental health, with a focus on human rights, the misuse of psychiatry, and Rights-Based Existential Psychiatry.
